Did You Know?

Textured, white clay tiles arranged in a grid pattern, showcasing their detailed surfaces for crafting or artistic projects.

In the Kiln
Clay goes through 2 separate firings to turn soft clay into a finished tile. Tiles are ready for the first firing known as Bisque once the clay tiles are completely dry. During this firing, fragile dry clay is transformed into a solid and stronger form. The kiln reaches a temperature of over 1900 degrees and takes approximately 2 days to complete.

The final step is Glaze firing. During this process clay becomes fully vitrified. (it is no longer porous thus becomes waterproof). Once each tile is carefully glazed it is fired to over 2000 degrees. Usually this takes about 2 days to finish.

Unloading a glaze kiln is often met with surprise and a sense of relief when work comes out better or just as you hoped!
